looking east up the
coast.  They say the lava has reached
the ocean and there is a weak ocean
entry...  I think I see it...

Wrong way!  The wind's not supposed to blow that way!  It annoys everyone from Hilo to Honolulu.  See the top of the
page for the right way!

We have an ocean entry about 5 miles down the coast...

Mau'umae Beach
December 13, 2012
It had been raining for days so Robin and I decided we needed an "emergency beach".  We headed over to Kawaihae, an
area where it almost never rains.  Literally... it's a freakin' desert!  There's a nice little beach there called
Mau'umae.
We've been there
before, normally walking down from Spencer Beach Park.  But this time Spencer was closed and we
had to go around and come in from the south.  This is a great little spot!

With Robin in the lead, we're headed for
Mau'umae Beach, through the
branches of that dead tree, hidden in the glare...

And, just above that, our own private
little beach...

Looking to the left, there's
Mau'umae...

I think one measure of a good beach is the number of footprints on it...

When it rains too much where I live on the windward side, I can always drive the 5 miles to the park where the weather is
almost (but not) always better.  Here are some shots from around the Park...
And now back to our regularly scheduled program...
And now for something completely different!
