Makaopuhi Crater
It's so big, I can't take a picture of it!

The path is going into the trees.  Look
how high that
A'a lava is banked...!

This is the part I like:  going from the hot  windy open to the cool quiet shade...

Just some shots of the trail as I go along...

A fence and a gate - to keep out feral
pigs which destroy native habitat.  I
think I'll have some lunch...

Just on the other side of the gate, the land rises a good 6 or
7 feet into another lava flow...

And here it is...

Here are some close-ups of the road
area...

Before I went out, I painstakingly
inspected the image in Google Earth to
see if I could find any signs of the
road.  The only things I could come up
with were two locations that I marked
with circles and named "rd" and "Trl
Jct".  That was it.

Of course, I found out where the road
is - it's under the clouds!

The road must be close...
3:36 PM @ "End"
This was a great hike!  I researched and planned it all out.  I waited for the weather and it all went well until the weather
started to move in at the end.  Ultimately, it never did move in all the way but it kept me moving where I might have wanted
to linger a little longer...  7.5 miles in 4.25 hrs.  Mostly downhill...!
