Bricks - On The Roof
7/5/00 - 7/24/00
7/5/00
Smitty is rigging up a hoist with which we will be able to lift materials to the roof.  He's also constructing a work platform.
7/5/00
The rope will go from the front of his truck, through a pulley at the base of the house and up through a pulley on that rig
he's building and straight back down to where we'll lift things from.  Backing the truck up will lift things up to the deck on the
roof.

A view of the set-up.  Work platform and shade canopy with hoist (empty hook hanging just left of the end of the shovel
handle in the left photo).  Follow the yellow rope, it's hooked to the front of my truck...
All engineered and executed by Smitty...  We all just watched...

Under the radio and Smitty's hat on the
left side, you can see a 2x6 laying flat
on the roof.  There's another one on
the other side like that.  Those are the
only things attached to the roof.
Everything else is suspended from
those 2x6s.

It's a beautiful day!
7/17/00
The cap (dampers) are on the chimney
top!
7/17/00

The dampers are in the up position.
To close them, a cable is pulled by the
fireplace.  With the dampers on top of
the chimney, all the heat is held inside
the house and doesn't go, as they say,
"up the chimney".
